Speed Switch Model SS-500

The model SS-500 Conveyor Speed Sensor may be supplied to provide any of the following:

• 4-20 mA proportional to conveyor speed
• Relay output for belt under/over-speed (field programmable)
• Profibus® DP interface

The SS-500 Speed Sensor is based on our field proven PT-500 speed sensor as used with out range of precision conveyor scales. Theses sensors are robust with a track record of toughness and reliability demanded in the Mining and Heavy Industry applications. Protection is to IP 65.

This speed sensor is extremely simple to set-up in the field and single model will accommodate all belt speed ranges (no need to have different models to accommodate different conveyor speeds).

The speed sensor is provided with Integrated Drive Mechanism, allowing true low cost installation. The integrated drive mechanism allows the speed sensor to couple to almost any conveyor belt width and any troughing angle.

Due to the high resolution of the belt speed sensor, it can detect small speed changes This allows for an early warning of impending belt slip. An Alarm is therefore possible before any serious damage.

Installation Option
An optional Tachometer Drive Assembly is available, which simplifies installation (it bolts to the conveyor stringer). The tachometer drive assembly has been designed to ensure correct transfer of linear belt speed to the tachometer wheel to eliminate errors caused by belt tension variations, slip and friction.
