Blocked Chute Detector - Gamma type
Process Automation Blocked Chute Detectors are used to detect blockages in process chutes. In some cases the material blockage can be dangerous, e.g. spillage of hot or corrosive material, etc. and it is therefore critical to detect the blockage before it actually occurs. The detector can measure the material build-up on the sides of chutes and provide an early warning when the safe working limit is reached. The process can then be stopped and the build-up cleared before any blockage occurs. This is of great importance in processes where the material can solidify resulting in long equipment downtime in order to clear the blockage.
Operation
The point level gauge operates on the principle of gamma ray absorption.
It comprises a gamma emitting source and an appropriate gamma detector, mounted on opposite sides. As build-up occurs, more and more of the gamma rays are absorbed. The detector measures the reduction in gamma rays and provides an output once the blockage condition is exceeded.
This non-invasive measurement is unaffected by process pressure, temperature, dust, viscosity, refractive characteristics, etc. and does not suffer wear and corrosion normally associated with invasive measurement systems.
The gamma detectors may be supplied in either of two formats viz. Detector with Remote mounting transmitter electronics or detector with integrated processing electronics
